Ina, Product Manager, Filtration

What does your work include?

I work as Product Manager in Ahlstrom’s Advanced Filtration business area in Windsor Locks, Usa. I am responsible for developing products, services, sales and marketing strategies for high efficiency air and hydraulic filtration applications at the global level. I work closely with product development to continuously renew our product portfolio. One important part of my work is to manage product launches, which includes many different activities such as defining the product value proposition, pricing, training the sales force, and creating demand for the products through targeted marketing. Our matrix organization supports me to work together with technical colleagues, controllers, and sales to analyze the market and ensure profitability of our products.

What inspires you most?

The biggest inspirations in my job are the people – my colleagues, and our customers. I very much enjoy working with people of different professional backgrounds, and people of different nationalities. It is very interesting to explore multiple aspects of a situation, simply because people with diverse educational, professional, or cultural backgrounds may think about and see things differently. Our customers are a great motivation to me because they are, after all, the justification for our products, services, and my work.

Your work history and career aspirations at Ahlstrom?

I started working for Ahlstrom’s Filtration Business in August 2007, as a Project Manager in Research and Technology Development. At the end of 2012 I was offered the role of Product Manager in the growing team of Advanced Filtration. My vocation is engineering and science, but taking the Product Manager position helped me to understand not just the technical details of products, but the other features and qualities that are important to make a technically great product successful. I very much enjoy the strategic and technical aspects of my job, and the interaction with customers. I hope I can continue to develop my career with Ahlstrom for many years to come, with a focus on business strategy and technology management. I am originally from Germany, and I am excited about the possibility of moving back to Europe in a few years to continue working for Ahlstrom!

Katia, Sales Director

What does your work include?

I am Sales Director for two Sales Teams: Food Packaging & Processing and Medical & Healthcare. Leading a team is about having technical competences and networks in the businesses and track records in sales and managing priorities. It is also about having people skills and providing the direction to execute the strategy and deliver profitable growth for our company.

What inspires you most?

Passion and motivation in what I do and the great opportunity to work with people who enjoy working at Ahlstrom. I feel that my team and I are close and I like to listen, which helps me improve myself.

I like to learn from all kinds of situations. My teams are very important to me and I like to create interactions within and between them: great opportunity to share our knowledge at Ahlstrom!

Your work history and career aspirations at Ahlstrom?

I started at Ahlstrom in Mathi Italy in April 2000. First I worked in Filtration as Customer Service Assistant, then I moved to work in the Milano Nonwoven Sales Office. I became Market Development Manager for Medical Fabrics when Mundra plant was opened in 2010. Then I worked as Sales Manager at the Sales Office in Milano for a couple of years. In December 2012 I was offered the great opportunity of my current position and currently I work as Sales Director In Milano, Italy. In this role I feel that I have a lot to learn and give.

Tiger, Process Technician

What does your work include?

I work as Process Technician in the technical department of Longkou plant in China. The plant is new-built; we celebrated the inauguration in November 2012. The plant has new machines and most of my colleagues are new at Ahlstrom.

My daily work consists of preparing a trial plan and recipe before running the trial, following the process and adjusting it if needed. Additionally, I prepare the trial reports afterwards. I am also in charge of recipe maintenance in our ERP system, design and follow-up of the process modifications and lab trials. I try my best to use all of our resources to finish a day’s work in time, not leave them for tomorrow. I tend to divide a longer term plan into small ones each day, and identify what’s important for us. We need to enhance effective communication and feedback with people.

What inspires you most?

My work provides me a chance to put my thoughts into action, and I can learn a lot every day. Usually after some “teething” problems at the beginning of trial, the issues become less and less prominent. That inspires me to go ahead in my work. My manager always tells me never to be afraid of the issues, we just need to resolve them.

Your work history and career aspirations at Ahlstrom?

I joined Ahlstrom in August 2011. At first, I worked in the project before opening the plant, and after that I have been working as a Process Technician.

I want to develop further in technical direction, wishing to be a process engineer at Ahlstrom one day.
