Glass fiber combination products

Ahlstrom’s combinations products comprise Combiflow, Multiflow, stitched mat, X-flow and traditional woven/mat reinforcements.

Combiflow

Combiflow is a special reinforcement which is typically used in the RTM (Resin Transfer Molding) process. Traditional Combiflow is made up of three layers. Layers of chopped fibers on each side of a porous, synthetic nonwoven providing an excellent resin flow.

Ahlstrom Combiflow´s binder free structure gives excellent drapeability, very good resin flow and good compatibility with resins.

Combiflow D, layers of chopped fiber stitched onto synthetic flow media to be used with other standard reinforcements.

Multiflow

Multiflow is exclusively for closed mold applications. A structural reinforcement such as a multiaxial or woven fabric stitched together with the layers of chopped fiber and flow media provides better mechanical properties than traditional Combiflow.

Description

 700 - 3,000
(20.6-88.5)

One package where flow media is combined with reinforcement fabric or multiaxial.

Stiched mat

Stiched mat is made up of chopped fibers mechanically bonded (stitched) together with a thermoplastic yarn. No chemical binder is used which improves wet out time and the chemical bonding between matrix and reinforcement.

Description

450-1,000
(13.3-29.5)

A chopped strand mat stitched together with thermoplastic yarn.

X-flow

X-flow products enhance good resin flow which is essential in successful infusion production. Ahlstrom infusion reinforcements are designed to control resin flow during infusion. The unique channel structure of the reinforcements increases the mold filling speed and ensures complete impregnation of critical areas. One layer of X-flow helps to wet several layers of standard reinforcements.

Woven mat reinforcements

Woven mat reinforcements are among the most widely used types of technical fabrics. The product can be modified to meet the specific requirements of the end use.
