BioWeb™ - biodegradable nonwovens
Our focus on sustainability led to the development of BioWeb™, a unique nonwoven material based on renewable biopolymer, thus fully biodegradable and compostible. Its principal ingredient is PLA (polylactic acid) derived from annually grown plants.
In comparison to oil derived products, Ahlstrom’s new BioWeb™ nonwoven benefits from the use of a renewable raw material and of measurable reduced greenhouse gas emissions as assessed by independent analysis.
Applications
BioWeb™ is suitable for a variety of end uses, including:
- Ultrasonically sealed teabags
- Leg cuffs for diapers
- Top-sheet / Back-sheet for diapers
- Plant root protection
- Soft furnishings
Ahlstrom BioWeb™ nonwoven is also a sustainable, high performance alternative in many other applications where polypropylene or polyester spunbond webs are commonly used.
Unique environmental benefits
- 100% based on annually renewable resource
- Certified biodegradable and compostible to EN13432 norm 1,2
1) DIN CERTCO certified to EN13432:2000 - 12, Certification scheme for products made of compostable materials; 2) Registered as conforming to the GreenPla Identification and Labeling System
- Lower carbon footprint compared to materials using oil-based polymers. ( Demonstrated through independent LCA (life cycle assessment) carried out to ISO14040 standards)
