Was is Genuine vegetable parchment ?

Back to the main Genuine vegetable parchment page.

Genuine vegetable parchment is a unique, totally natural paper made from cellulose. It doesn’t require the use of chemical additives to form a barrier against grease. The simple process of modifying a relatively normal paper into vegetable parchment creates a material with a number of unique natural properties.

Benefits of the parchmentizing process

Genuine Vegetable Parchment owes its unique strength and heat resistance to a two-phase manufacturing process. A "waterleaf" base paper is produced and then "parchmentized" by immersing it in an acid bath to jellify the fibers. This results in a very robust, dense structure with high tensile and wet strength that is a natural physical barrier to grease and resins.

Heat resistant up to 450° F/230° C, with no loose fibers to contaminate the final product, it is pure and safe for food contact and has natural release properties.

A logo to identify genuine vegetable parchment

We are encouraging customers to adopt a distinctive new logo designed to help the baking market distinguish Genuine vegetable parchment from other grease resistant papers sometimes wrongly sold as 'parchment paper'.

The logo is trademarked to restrict its use to Genuine Vegetable Parchment products. It’s freely available to our customers for use in their publicity, sales literature and on packaging, and they are strongly encouraged to urge their customers to adopt it too.

We recognizee that the more widely it’s used by retailers, the more quickly consumers will learn to recognize and trust the eye-catching green logo that immediately identifies genuine vegetable parchment.
