SBTi
Ahlstrom’s near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets have been approved, and net-zero science-based target by 2050 has been verified by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Setting ambitious climate targets is an integral part of Ahlstrom's strategy and purpose to ‘Purify and Protect with Every Fiber for a Sustainable World’. Ahlstrom commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2021 base year.
EcoVadis
Ahlstrom has been awarded a Platinum Medal, the highest recognition level, in the EcoVadis sustainability assessment, ranking Ahlstrom among the top one percent of companies evaluated over the past 12 months.
The platinum score is based on the company’s sustainability management in four categories:
- Environment
- Labour and Human Rights
- Ethics
- Sustainable Procurement.

The Leadership score A- in CDP climate disclosure highlights our strategic and systematic efforts to reduce climate impact across the value chain while reinforcing our dedication to transparency and action in tackling climate change.
UN Global Compact
Ahlstrom Group has been a signatory to United Nations Global Compact and its ten principles and reports annually on its progress since 2017. Participating in the UN Global Compact affirms our commitment to upholding human rights, responsible labor practices, environmental quality, and anti-corruption practices.
Collaborations
World Business Council for Sustainable Development
Ahlstrom joined the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), a global organization committed to accelerating the transition to a sustainable world, in 2024. By becoming a member of WBCSD, Ahlstrom will collaborate with some of the world’s most forward-thinking companies to further the global sustainability agenda.
Together, Ahlstrom and WBCSD aim to tackle urgent environmental issues, including climate change, the need for clean air and water, decarbonization, biodiversity loss, and plastic pollution.
Other memberships
Ahlstrom is an active member of several coalitions that support the circular bioeconomy. The long-term collaboration in product development with customers forms the basis for developing the capacity of what fiber-based materials can do.
Through an academic network, Ahlstrom participates in research programs within themes of high strategic importance to the group: 4evergreen, Sustainable Packaging Coalition, F3 - Films for Future, Soteria Battery, Innovation Group, Cellulose Valley, CELAB
