Italian plant receive acreditation for their dedication on safety
Ahlstrom-Munksjö has achieved the Gold Level Accreditation for Behavioral Based Safety (BBS) for its Turin and Sassoferrato plants in Italy, as a result of audits in December 2018. Audits were conducted by the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies (CBBS), an international organization focusing on behavioral sciences and best practices.
Behavioral Based Safety, one of the key group-wide methodologies introduced by Ahlstrom-Munksjö to pursue continuous improvement in safety, was rolled out in the company’s Italian operations in early 2015.
Recognizing the crucial importance of personal behavior, involvement and awareness, the methodology is based on a guided observation process, where employees observe each other at work to complete an extensive behavioral checklist. Observations lead to open and constructive feedback to reinforce safe behavior and to inspire improvements where needed. Approximately 150 observers are currently active in Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s two units in Italy. They contributed to the result of being the first company in Italy to achieve the accreditation.
“We would like to congratulate Ahlstrom-Munksjö for successfully meeting our stringent criteria and achieving Gold Level Accreditation in Italy”, says CBBS’s Managing Commissioner Dr. Timothy D. Ludwig. In their review, Commissioners Alan Cheung and Dr. Sigurdur Sigurdsson noted that “all stakeholders in the company take an active role and are committed to the success. The process is continuously evaluated, with constant improvement efforts. Focus has turned from pure results driven safety management to behavior-based management, which is to be applauded.”
"This world-class reward recognizes several years of hard work and commitment to safety, which represents the first priority in our organization. At the same time it provides further motivation for the future, driving us all towards superior activity and results in this field", say Daniele Borlatto, Executive Vice President for Industrial Solutions, and Fulvio Capussotti, Executive Vice President for Filtration and Performance at Ahlstrom-Munksjö.
The Turin and Sassoferrato plants manufacture filtration and release liner products for Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s Filtration and Performance and Industrial Solutions business areas, and are certified according to ISO9001, TS16949, OHSAS18001, ISO14001, ISO50001, FSC® and PEFC™ standards for Quality, Safety, Environmental, and Energy Management systems, as well as Chain of Custody.
CBBS auditors also identified a connection between the solid BBS practices and the sustained decrease of injury rates of the organization over the years, which is well below the industry average in Italy.
As evidence of that, Ahlstrom-Munksjö has been selected as one of the best companies in Italy for safety management in December 2017, and awarded by the National Industry Association (Confindustria) together with the Italian Authority for safety (INAIL).
