Ahlstrom’s fiber-based material selected for PlasticTox microplastic blood test kit
AHLSTROM OYJ, PRESS RELEASE, JUNE 15, 2026 at 10 EEST
Ahlstrom, a global leader in fiber-based specialty materials, announces today that its Ahlstrom EBF 903™ specimen collection card has been selected for a microplastic blood test kit developed by ArrowLab and PlasticTox. The application demonstrates how Ahlstrom’s fiber-based solution can contribute to an innovation that enables the measurement of microplastics in human blood, helping advance understanding of their effects on people’s health.
ArrowLab and PlasticTox have developed a microplastic blood test kit for research and monitoring purposes. The solution enables the measurement of microplastic presence in human blood, while the Ahlstrom EBF 903™ card is used as part of the sample collection process. It is designed to generate structured data on microplastic exposure, including particle count per mL of blood, size distribution, morphology classification, and polymer identification where detectable. The solution is intended for informational and research purposes only and is not a diagnostic medical device.
This application highlights how Ahlstrom’s materials can support reliable sample collection and enable new approaches to measuring microplastics in human blood. It further underlines the role of fiber-based materials in supporting research into the effects of microplastics on people’s health.
“This collaboration shows how Ahlstrom’s specialty materials can help customers enable new applications in life sciences,” said Tamara Quatrano, VP, Lab and Life Sciences. “It reflects the value of combining material performance with customer innovation to support emerging areas of research and analysis.”
The solution is intended for use in research and monitoring environments, including health-related and institutional settings.
Ahlstrom continues to develop high-performance fiber-based materials for advanced life science applications. This use case further demonstrates the versatility of Ahlstrom’s specimen collection solutions in supporting new approaches to health-related research, sample analysis, and data generation.
