Bushings connect the overhead lines to the transformers and provide a safe, insulated pathway for electrical conductors to pass through the bushing casing, preventing direct contact with grounded components. This ensures both operational safety and system reliability.

Insulation paper is essential for maintaining the dielectric properties. Both oil-impregnated (OIP) and resin-impregnated (RIP) paper bushings offer excellent dielectric strength with low dissipation factor. Resin-impregnated paper bushings are often preferred from an environmental perspective.
